Arriving at Paro International Airport, nestled amidst Bhutan’s scenic valleys, you’ll be greeted by crisp mountain air and awe-inspiring vistas of forested ridges and majestic monasteries. After a warm reception, you’ll be transferred to your accommodation to rest and acclimatize to the altitude (2,250m). Following a hearty Bhutanese lunch, the day is yours to explore. Guests can stroll through Paro town or opt to rest before assembling their cycles. Dinner will be a cultural delight, served in a traditional farmhouse near Bhutan’s oldest temple. This setting offers a perfect introduction to Bhutanese hospitality and the significance of Buddhism in local life.

The journey begins with a thrilling ride through Paro’s countryside, culminating in the climb to Chelela Pass, Bhutan’s highest motorable pass (3,989m). Along the ascent, glimpses of the Himalayan peaks add to the adventure. After reaching the prayer-flagged summit, the descent to Haa offers exhilarating views and an alfresco lunch overlooking the valley.
The day concludes with a gradual climb to the hotel in Haa, surrounded by verdant landscapes and traditional Bhutanese architecture.

Cycling alongside the Haachu River, you’ll journey through pristine valleys with opportunities to spot wildlife like monkeys and yaks. The route showcases Bhutan’s rustic charm, passing through small villages with cheering locals. Lunch is a serene picnic amid stunning natural surroundings. The final stretch follows the Wang Chhu River, transitioning from tranquil countryside to the bustling charm of Thimphu. Upon arrival, riders can unwind and explore the city, famed for its harmonious blend of tradition and modernity.

Leaving Thimphu, the route ascends to Dochula Pass (3,050m), a journey marked by vibrant forests and wildlife sightings. At the summit, riders are greeted by 108 stupas and panoramic Himalayan views. The descent into Punakha is a cyclist’s dream, winding through lush forests and rice terraces. In Punakha, explore the iconic Punakha Dzong and the country’s longest suspension bridge before retiring to the hillside hotel with stunning valley views.

This leg of the tour traverses the Black Mountains, offering a mix of challenging climbs and exhilarating descents. Riders will ascend Pele La Pass (3,360m), where yaks graze in the high-altitude meadows, and descend into Trongsa. The route provides an authentic glimpse into Bhutan’s rural life and rugged terrain.

Starting with a steep climb, this day takes you through winding mountain roads and dense forests to Yutong La Pass (3,484m). Descending into Bumthang, riders will experience a dramatic change in scenery, entering Bhutan’s “Little Switzerland” with its open valleys and quaint villages. Your accommodation, run by a Swiss expat, adds a unique touch to the day.

The serene Tang Valley offers one of the most scenic rides of the trip. Ascend through quiet forested roads to the historic Ogyencholing Manor, where a home-cooked lunch awaits. After exploring the manor’s museum, the return ride to Bumthang provides a final opportunity to soak in the region’s beauty.

After a morning flight from Bumthang to Paro. This first landmark in Paro you will visit is the Ta Dzong Museum, the national museum located on the hill behind the Paro Dzong. It houses many fine arts, religious relics, handicrafts, as well as textiles, jewelry etc., offering a great orientation into Bhutan’s historical, cultural, and religious past. Then head to visit the Kyichu Lhakhang, which is one of 108 temples constructed by the Tibetan king Songtsen Gampo. Built in a manner similar to the Jokhang in Lhasa, Tibet, the temple has the great golden image of Buddha Shakyamuni. After that, you will go to explore the famous Paro Rinpung Dzong. It is a large Dzong, Buddhist monastery and fortress built in 17th Century to protect Paro valley. Rinpung Dzong houses the district Monastic Body and government administrative offices of Paro Dzongkhag.

After breakfast hike to Taktsang Monastery. The walk of approximately 1.5 to 2 hours uphill takes you almost a kilometre above the Paro valley floor. The view of Taktsang Monastery built on a sheer cliff face 900 metres above the valley floor is a spectacular sight. The Monastery is also an important pilgrim site for the Buddhists. The great Guru Rimpoche is said to have flown here on the back of a tigress when he brought the teachings of the Buddhist Dharma to Bhutan in the 8th Century. Nearby there is a teahouse where you can stop for refreshments before returning to Paro for lunch.
In the afternoon drive or ride the relatively flat road to the almost fully reconstructed Drukgyel Dzong. The original monument (destroyed by fire in 1951) was built by Shabdrung to commemorate his victory against invading Tibetans in 1644. In fine weather the towering peak of the sacred Mount Jomolhari (7314m) appears as a stunning backdrop. On the return drive to Paro, visit other sights in Paro valley.
