Cycling in Bhutan is popularity amongst both local and visitors alike. The country’s topography makes for steep hill climbs, high passes and lower valley riding that can be combined with rewarding cultural sightseeing. Cycling is therefore a very unique way of experiencing and interacting with Bhutan, its people and its beautiful environment. Most cycling trips include well paved roads, dirt farm access roads, and occasional trails, while the more adventurous have the option of challenging climbs with extraordinary views. Cycling trails mostly meander through small towns and villages in rural areas. It’s just you and your guide and companions, your bikes and the natural scenery, allowing you many opportunities for self- reflection along with the absorbing, rich environment. Bring your own bike or we’ll provide one for you. Weather-wise, from September to November, the climate is mild and the skies are clear. In March through to May, wildflowers bloom across the valleys. In the other months, rainfall occurs however it will vary depending on where you want to go.
Opportunities for hikes and time to connect with the locals are also included into our our cycling itineraries. Tour Of The Dragon- An Annual Bike Race: Tour of the Dragon isn’t a road bike race, nor is it a classic mountain bike race, nor a “gravel grinder”. Since the distance of the race is 286 Km (178 miles), it is categorized as an ultar-marathon mountain bike race, and on roads that are extremely challenging. It starts in Bumthang and goes through four mountain passes before finishing in Thimphu. It’s one of the most difficult one-day mountain bike races in the world.
